people have misinterpreted smoking as being a freedom of choice; people smoke because that is there way of asserting independance but isn'tit more then that. smoking could be simple behaviourism. adults were told to smoke by health professions i.e. doctors because it stops stress and makes them lose weight. patients found this to be true and reinforced smoking so they continued to smoke, smokers also get a buzz or relieve from smoking which also reinforces there behaviour. children watch there parents and role models smoking and imitate the behaviour since they also get a buzz from smoking this too reinfoces behaviour. isn' this surely a more plausible way of explainig an incredible phenomena of why people smoke when it damages there health- it's because they just unconciously copy behaviour not because they are choosing a way of life. it has been brought to my attention that people question why some people smoke and there siblings dont it is because altough they have the same parents they have different experiences with them i.e an older child will be able to see there mother short of breath because they smoke but a younger child may see them being slim, this can explain differences between people in the same environment.
